I WISH I WERE IN ROME

I WISH I WERE IN ROME

I wish I were in Rome, in Rome,
I wish I were in Rome now.

I close my eyes and hear the sound
Of thousand Vespas cruising around.
Among it all I sit and sip a cup of cappuccino
on the Spanish stairs.

I would be walking to an fro,
Dreaming of Michelangelo.
And I would try to touch
the fingertips of fervent passion
Under the silent dome.

Drinking Martini dry,
Watching the boys go by.
In Caffè Nero near Via Veneto
I sit and pass my time.

Eternal city Rome,
I like your elegance and decay.
Your face grows pale
But still your lips glow crimson red.

And in the night you blacken your eyes
And give away quadrillions of lies.
You show your thighs tattooed
with signs of lust and hidden crime
And of your soul sometime.

I wish I were in Rome, in Rome,
I wish I were in Rome now.
I close my eyes,
I kiss her pale cheek,
I miss the offbeat of Rome.
